I visited tibet for 4 days around Lhasa. It is enough for me. The tour lenth is depends on you, deep tour or standard tour.
Usually there is no diffculty to entry unless you are suspicious. :D I applied entry more than 500 times for foreigners, no failure. Don't worry about this.
By the way, the air is short of oxygen in Tibet. Make sure you are healthy before the trip..
Yes, I believe it is for sure that the prices of the hotels and tours come down after olympics, but you may expect a crowd just after the olympics, as many people are planing a tour as soon as the olympics finishes.
Agree. It is a good idea to visit the city in the next year after the olympic games..
I vote Thailand. Most of the people is smile and no hurry. It is really relax to meet them unless you are hurry..
in the North of Vietnam, 11 hours by train or road (I'd recommend the train - just!)
You'll have this great peaceful remote feeling while witnessing the tribal people shopping at the market (I think that's on Sundays).
I nearly burned my camera out taking so many pics at the market. One of the highlights of my trip to Vietnam a couple of years ago.

changmai001 - The original question was "why do you travel to thailand" it was not "where can I buy a suit in ChangMai" Please refrain from slipping endorsements and advertisements into the discussion..
average 100usd/day included food travel room,
Wow, I have never spent that in Thailand and I have never felt like I've missed anything or travelled on the "real cheap".
You could live like a king in Thailand on that budget!

Hi, I'm new to the forum but not new to travelling and in S.E. Asia have visited: Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.
In 2007 I visited Myanmar for one day (don't laugh, they only allowed you to stay one day if crossing by the Freedom Bridge on foot from Thailand at Mae Sot and hung onto your passport!) and I loved the people, atmosphere, uniqueness of the place, i.e. liked it for the reasons many of us travel.
I had planned to visit Mynamar as my next trip though I did get sidetracked last year and go to Sri Lanka mainly because I could only go in August and it was monsoon season in Myanmar.
Anyway I'm going away for a month in September, flying into Bangkok with nothing planned as usual apart from planning to spend a few days (or more) in Laos and probably ending up in the south of Thailand for the last few days getting some beach time.
Hi every one. I will be Pattayabound in late September returning back from Bangkok in October via Dubhai. Emirates have given me free over night accomodation in the Millenium Hotel Dubhai. Has any one stayed there before? If its not in side the airport terminal how far away is it? and do I have to be back at the airport check in two hours before the flight, or is there a "Short cut" fast track check in for passengers that have been put up in over night accomodation. Oh yes, I presume transport will be provided in both directions.
Thank's for your feed back, Andy.
I think just remember Hoi An as an old city, a representative of Vietnam's old days :P.
I like Xishuangbanna best..

i suggest the biggest ball of twine, which is about 50 feet (15 m) tall with a rotating restaurant on top - this ball of twine is located at Central Dis, minnesota.
an exhibit in the museum at its base claims that its mass will eventually cause the Earth to gravitate towards the sun, destroying the planet....
So far as I konw that the heart of Nepal is far from any roads, and the only way to get there is by walking through endless ranges of hills. It's a rewarding experience to join local people and walk to remote villages and the foot of the Himalayan peaks.I've read some nepal trek info on mytibettravel.com and found several highlights. The Everest Base Camp trek offers you the spectacular scenery and the outgoing Sherpa people of the Solu Khumbu region where Mt Everest and its attendant lesser peaks are.The 220-kilometre Annapurna Circuit trek is regarded as one of the top ten walk in the world. Annapurna range offers a unique insight into the physical and cultural diversity of Nepal. This lodged-based trek is certainly a 'classic' and is enjoyed by trekkers from all round the world.
The Langtang Trek offers many of the benefits of the Helambu trek, and gives you the opportunity to get right in among the Himalayan peaks and walk through remote, sparsely populated areas.
Hi,
you make it at Vietnam embasy, you have to pay the fix fee. And when you make it through online comapanies, you'll have to pay the fee for the Vietnam Embassy, and service charge for that company. The money you pay for them that is only service charge, when you pick up your visa in Vietnam Embassy or pick up it on arrival, you'll have to pay the fee for vietnam Immigration(in the VN Embassy in your country or on VN arrival).
Hi,
No, you don't need it in Hoi An and Halong bay..
Hi

From Da Nang, take a bus to Hoi An, and you can take a train, bus flight from Da nang to Hanoi..

I think I'm very late to reply , you may in Bahrain now , I think you found how safe is Bahrain . I hope you spend a nice time in Bahrain ..
... and will this introduce queues like at Muscat or Bahrain airports? Dubai airport (DXB) has always been pretty painless for me, I hope this will not slow it down.....
oman has camel trekking, give laura a mail on laura@holiday-in-oman.com or if you need to look at the web site before , holiday in oman
I would hire a car then have the company arrange you to meet up with a local bedu and head off, remember that most bedu now have pick-ups as well but you can get to see and live with them, its not always that nice if you want it to be real life. No toielts, washing facilities for few days and food is Rice and fish or rice and meat.
You will have a great time.
Regards
Rob.
I guess one can only assume Iraq or Israel. :?.
Go to Dubai, they have an indoor ski resort there, with snow!!
Now that's awesome. :D.
I am an Europian expat, and I've been living in Dubai for four years
There are good and bad things in Dubai, but the fact is that Dubai is really very safe place, and it' is also quite cosmopolitian, since there is about 150 hundred nations from different parts of the world, living in it, including a large expat community (Brits, Aussies, Canadains, etc.).
Some of my friends do not believe me when I say that I can normally walk alone, sit in a cafee, party, clubbing,.. and that as a woman I feel quite safe. It's a really shame that people have lots of prejadice when it comes to middle-eastern countries, but prejudices are here to be broken, not to be supported... Life is short so the best thing is to explore the world without fears and thougths about what could happen when we travell.
So, if you have a wish to experience Dubai, do not hesitate.

I wonder how hot is your controversy around topless sunbathing. I think, Egypt travel providers want to let to do all the travelers want to attract new visitors, but religious native won't welcome topless women. Except of more temporal natives..
I think we'll be staying with family. No, I can't read Arabic but my husband is fluent in it as he grew up there. I am trying to get some quick basic language books. There are two - one with tape - coming out next month so have them on order. I hope we can travel around a little.
I am wondering what I should wear as a Caucasian woman. Would it be better just to cover up and not draw attention?? I can't ask these questions of the family. The women don't speak English and it's difficult to get answers from the men..
I had a lot of friends travelled to Iran and its a safe place for a guy...
For female travellers; just dont mind about guys staring and thinking you naked... You will be getting flirt offers from all men over age 13... Ignore them and you will be fine :).
I tried quite a time ago but it was damn hard.....
I'm actually looking into the best and cheapest and safest way to visit these cities, and which border crossings are the easiest to do, and which are the shorter distances. It's not easy though. Does anyone have any info on this or can direct me to some good websites?
I don't want to have to scour Thorntree just yet..
Hi,
it depends what your honeymoon should be like. If you want to relax, rest, cuddle, enjoy the lovely beaches, seas and weather, then you should consider Antalya or Bodrum. They have nice all-inclusive, luxurious but very affordable hotels.
Personally I've been several times to hotels of the World of Wonders chain. Stay clear of their Kremlin Palace though if you don't like 50% of the guests being of Russian origin.
If you want to combine culture with some nightlife, Istanbul is a great choice. It will be a bit more expensive and less relaxing, but the amount of sightseeing spots is huge: Haghia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Cisterns, Bosphorus tour, and many more palaces and mosque. For good weather ( 25+ degrees and no rain), don't come before the end of May though.
If you want some more info on Istanbul, just PM me.
Hope it helps,
Cheers..

...aslo, keep timeframes in mind, the original poster was asking about a trip for "next summer" in December of 2006. The information you provided is helpful, but I imagine they've already made the journey..
I've travelled through Iran a few times and as a female you do have to abide by the local laws and cover your head. To be honest, as a traveller you adapt to the rules of a country and adhere to the local dress codes anyway, so I suspect that it's a fairly ignorant traveller that would refuse to travel there because of it. In terms of safety, Iran is an incredibly safe place as crime rates are low (except for the trading of prohibited items on the black market) and nearly everywhere is safe to walk around on your own.

Whilst travelling out to Bahrain with qatar airways, I was downgraded into economy as I was told that business class was full. No problem, I thougt, I'll just get a refund. Well, after wasting a half day, taxi fares etc going to their office in Manamar they eventually took my ticket etc and said they'd process it through their UK office.
When I got back to the UK, their UK office said they didn't have a record and that was it. Downgraded and no refund! Needless to say I've never flown with them again.
